چکیده

An image classification technique, which has recently been introduced for visual pattern recognition, is successfully applied for human gait classification based on radar Doppler signatures depicted in the time-frequency domain. The proposed method has three processing stages. The first two stages are designed to extract Doppler features that can effectively characterize humanmotion based on the nature of arm swings, and the third stage performs classification. Three types of armmotion are considered: free-arm swings, one-arm confined swings, and no-arm swings. The last two arm motions can be indicative of a human carrying objects or a person in stressed situations. The paper discusses the different steps of the proposed method for extracting distinctive Doppler features and demonstrates their contributions to the final and desirable classification rates.

A new approach for classification of human gait based on time-frequency feature representations

We introduce a new and simple technique for human gait classification based on the time-frequency analysis of radar data. The focus is on the classification of arm movements to discern free vs. confined arm swinging motion. The latter may arise in hostage situation or may be indicative to carrying objects with one or both hands. The motion signatures corresponding to the arm and leg movements a...

Multi-Aspect Angle Classification of Human Radar Signatures

The human micro-Doppler signature is a unique signature caused by the time-varying motion of each point on the human body, which can be used to discriminate humans from other targets exhibiting micro-Doppler, such as vehicles, tanks, helicopters, and even other animals. Classification of targets based on micro-Doppler generally involves joint timefrequency analysis of the radar return coupled w...

General Linear Chirplet Transform and Radar Target Classification

In this paper, we design an attractivealgorithm aiming to classify moving targets includinghuman, animal, vehicle and drone, at groundsurveillance radar systems. The non-stationary reflectedsignal of the targets is represented with a novelmathematical framework based on behavior of thesignal components in reality. We further propose usingthe generalized linear chirp transform for the analysisst...

Application of a continuous wave radar for human gait recognition

A continuous wave (CW) radar has been used for the detection and classification of people based on the Doppler signatures they produce when walking. When humans walk, the motion of various components of the body including the torso, arms, and legs produce a very characteristic Doppler signature. Fourier transform techniques were used to analyze these signatures and key features were identified ...

Personnel Recognition Based on Multistatic Micro-Doppler and Singular Value Decomposition Features

This letter discusses the use of micro-Doppler signatures experimentally collected by a multistatic radar system to recognize and classify different people walking. A suitable feature based on Singular Value Decomposition of the spectrograms is proposed and tested with different types of classifiers. It is shown that high accuracy between 97-99% can be achieved when multistatic data are used to...
